I see a lot of articles on natural hair sites about it. I hear the term being tossed around all over youtube. When a natural hair blogger posted about her daughters yarn braids a reader accused her of being it. What am I talking about? Length Obsessed.
There are so many terms in the natural hair world that have to do with hair length TWA (teenie weenie afro) BSL (bra strap length) . I see so many people with hair length goals around the net. But why all the obsession about length?
Jamilah has had natural hair all her life, she is nearly 11 and her hair has not grown much past her shoulders. She can have all the hair goals she wants but the truth is her hair is well kept and still won't grow much past that length. We don't worry about the length of her hair we just celebrate her hair the way it is.
By the way, I don't believe the blogger I previously mentioned is length obsessed at all, her daughter happens to like yarn braids and there is nothing wrong with that at all. Some people are so quick to call someone length obsessed at the slightest mention of length! There is a big difference between talking about the length of the hair and being length obsessed!
There are some blogs out there that claim that if you follow their method your hair will grow to your waist. I see moms struggling, thinking they aren't doing something right because their child doesn't have waist length hair. stop worrying. If you are taking care of the hair it will grow to it's full potential, you may just have to accept that that full potential is a TWA or BSL! Just enjoy your hair, whatever length it is, decorate it, style it, LOVE IT, CELEBRATE IT!
Your Hair is CELEBRATION in the world!
