Holiday Gift Guide: Blended Beauty

Blended Beauty

Happy Nappy Styles

A rich and moisturizing styling cream for kinky curls and dreads, or highly textured hair. Style and define your curls or twist locs, while naturally hydrating. Perfect for finger twisting curls! Create defined curls, with maximum moisture and softness. Dries touchably soft and satiny, not sticky or greasy.

This is very similar to one of my very favorite products, "Down & Out Styles" which I have reviewed in the past. Happy Nappy Styles is an awesome styler, great for curly styles, twists, plats and braiding. I love the light creamy scent and the holding power without and stickiness, flaking or greasiness.

  SILK SHAKE

Treat your curls and give them a shake! SilkShake will revive dry and lifeless curls and hydrate while boosting shine, with Rice Bran oil. Perfect for detangling damp curls or for a boost in the morning or anytime of the day, on dry or damp hair. You can never spoil your curls too much!

The perfect product for coarse dry straight hair, such as some Asian hair. Comb-able when dry.

I first used Silk Shake while detangling my daughter's hair. It smoothed right through her tangles.  It's a medium texture spray detangler that can take out any tangles, believe me, I really put it to the test. My husband has had starter dreads in his hair for several months and decided he wanted to remove them. The first thing I grabbed was the SILK SHAKE. I sprayed each loc and worked the lotion in with my fingers and his locs came out so easily.

Blended Beauty is one of my very favorite natural hair companies! Their products all work so well with various hair textures and smell so yummy!

They have some great Gift Packs made up for all curly hair textures and mixed textures.....excellent gift ideas!!

Holiday Gift Giveaway: Beija Flor Naturals

I previously reviewed Beija-Flor Naturals Creme Brulee and loved it. The scent was so yummy and made my daughter's hair so soft!!

Beija-Flor Naturals is also one of the most reasonably priced hair and skin care lines out there!!!

Click Here to read the full review

Beija-Flor Naturals
has all Natural,Organic, Skin and Hair Care in lots of yummy scents! They have generously offered to give the Natural Hair Kit which includes three products to one lucky Hair With Purpose follower for the holiday season!! Keep them for yourself or give them as a gift to the Natural Hair Lover in your life!!

Natural Hair Kit

This product is for the happy and nappy, cute and coily, wild and wavy, kinky, curly...well you get the picture! No matter what your ethnic background, if the hair that sits on top of your head can be described as such you know that highly textured hair in all its glory tends to be dry, brittle and prone to breakage.

Our Creme Brulee is an everyday leave-in moisturizer with ingredients hand selected for beautiful healthy hair. The formula starts with an infusion of healing herbs such as rosemary, burdock and Marshmallow root. Murumuru Butter, Aloe butter, Shea Butter, Coconut Oil and Grapeseed oil add shine, moisture and protection.

In total, an infusion of 13 premium natural ingredients create a light cream texture that is perfect for all natural hair types. When used on wet or dry hair, the Creme Brulee can actually change the texture of your hair from straw to silk making it soft and manageable.

Gentle enough for babies bottoms, penetrating for dry cracked man hands, and a detangling moisturizing treat for dry kinky to curly hair. Can it be true? Yup, join the green revolution!!

The Beija-Flor Naturals hemp buttercream is a luxurious concoction inspired by The Mixtress' time in Berkeley California. Hemp is naturally grown organic without pesticides and is a nutrient powerhouse rich in Omega 6, 3, and 9. Goes on smooth, absorbs instantly

and lasts all day. This nourishing blend is guaranteed to leave both skin and hair buttery soft and hydrated.

As with most Beija-Flor Natural products the Cali Peach Pomade can be used on both hair and skin! This product gives the shine and control of good old fashion hair grease and the skin protection of a body balm without the icky chemicals.

We use Passion Fruit, Peach Kernel and Coconut oils to nourish the scalp, correct split ends and serve as a shine enhancing agent for all hair types especially heat treated, chemically relaxed and color treated hair. On the body, this product is a light but lasting moisturizer.

It has 100% vegetarian ingredients and does not contain mineral oil or other petrochemicals. The firm texture is non-greasy/sticky and won't clog pours like other chemically concocted pomades. All of this goodness topped with a mouthwatering fragrance will be your biggest ally in the brutal winter months!

Suggested Use for Naturally Curly Hair: This product is great for sealing in moisture, use alone or layered on top of leave-in conditioner for optimum shine and softness. Can also be used for twists, braids or to smooth edges of hair.

Suggested Use for Body: Emulsify a small amount of product in palm of hands and apply all over body. For super soft skin use on damp skin after shower.

Big thanks again to Zenzele

Pressures

A lot of little girls in our circle are getting really long "booty braids" (which mean they go down to your "booty"). I see J admiring the braids and listening to the girls talk about getting their braids and she seems to be feeling a little envious. Last night she found and old can of Oil Sheen and wanted me to spray her hair with it because that's what the other girls spray on their hair. I told her "NO" because there are chemicals that could damage her hair but she seemed disappointed.

The girls around our neighborhood all have that same look, and most of the girls I have seen at her school have been relaxed. I know she already feels a little different being biracial, then add being natural and I can see that she feels she doesn't always fit in and wants to be more like the other girl.

I sometimes wish we lived in an area where the were some natural hair shows and get-togethers where J could see the beauty of natural hair. Maybe have all the natural girls meet once a week and talk about hair, beauty, being natural.....like the Natural Girl Scouts! lol HMMM maybe it would be a cool idea?!

Anyway right now I just keep reminding her of her beauty, inside and out. I really need to get back into trying more new styles.....

Have you or your children felt pressures to relax? What about comments from extended family?

Hair for the sneaker lover!

J loves sneakers. I originally saw a style similar to this on another site done with ribbons. I wish I could remember the name of the site. (if anyone knows I'd be happy to post the link!!)

So I did 2 simple french braids down the back. We did a small braid across the front because J has a small bald spot that shows when her hair is parted down the middle. I took a fresh pair of hot pink laces and laced her braids like sneakers. I then wrapped the second lace around the top of her braids and tied knots to secure them leaving the laces to hang. J had a small black/pink sneaker I took off a key chain and we tied that into the knots.

The "Love Hawk"

For the "Love Hawk" we c0-washed J's hair
We used the ZENZELE leave in Conditioner and the Shea Shea Hair Souffle for some soft hold.

We used a basic mo-hawk in the front and made the back into a braided heart ponytail ending with multi-color barrettes.

Leave In Conditioner

This is my new favorite detangler!! I am loving it. J's hair was very tangled after washing since she had been wearing a ponytail for 2 days and had not had her hair de-tangled. I sprayed the mist of leave in conditioner in h
er hair and her hair just slid right through the Denman brush. The best part is that is leaves hair feeling clean, no greasiness, not weighed down!! Her hair just felt clean and soft. The smell is awesome, citrus, sweet...very unique!!

Ingredients

Aloe Barbadensis (Organic Aloe) Juice, Cetearyl Alcohol, Ricinus Communis (Castor Seed) Oil, Stearalkonium Chloride, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Phenoxyethanol, Kosher Vegetable Glycerin, Hydrolized Wheat Protein, D-Calcium Pantothenate (Panthenol Vitamin B5), Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Oil, Salix Nigra (Black Willow Bark) Extract, Rosmarinus Officnalis (Rosemary Oleoresin), Azadirachta Indica (Neem) Oil

Shea Shea Hair Souffle

Hair souffle is like a nice hair butter that glides through the hair, moisturiz
ing and has a little bit of hold to help hold those curls or styles in place. It's a light hold so it's not going to weigh the hair down too much. J's hair felt soft her curls were well defined and it smelled so nice after using Shea Shea Hair Souffle! Definite Keeper!

Ingredients

Aloe Barbadensis (Organic Aloe) Juice, Cocos Nucifera (Organic Coconut) Oil, Emulsifying Wax NF, Palm Stearic Acid, Kosher Vegetable Glycerin, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grapeseed) Oil, Persea Americana (Avocado) Oil, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel), Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Phenoxyethanol, Xanthan Gum (Polysaccharide Gum), Salix Nigra (Organic Black Willowbark) Extract, Mannan, Azadirachta Indica (Neem) Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Oleoresin, Tetrasodium EDTA, Citric Acid

Essential Hair Oil

My husband, Antonio's hair was recently locked and had been feeling dry and itchy. The other night it was driving him nuts he kept scratching at his locs so I grabbed the bottle of essential oil and applied it lightly to the scalp between his locs and he immediately felt relief. He actually hasn't had any itching since!
I used this oil on my daughter scalp also since it teds to be dry the I finger combed it through her hair. It's a bit of a heavier oil so a little goes a long way. Very nourishing, strengthening oils that add a nice sheen to the hair.

Ingredients
Safflower Oil, Olive Oil, Castor Oil, Jojoba Oil, Vitamin E

ZENZELE

Is a new company, with great products that are very reasonably priced!! After trying these three products, I can't wait to try the rest of the line!

Thanks to Zenzele for allowing us to review your products!!

Loc Journey day 1

It took me several days of hour sessions to complete Antonio's hair. I the video I posted in my previous blog showed a different way of parting the hair but I brick layered his locs so that less scalp would show. Now, If I was going to do my daughters hair in locs I would part in half from ear to ear and front to back so she could wear ponytail's and more styles with her locs. it's just a matter of preference.

BEFORE:

Hubbys hair had some wax build up from his twists so I washed his hair with KNOTTY BOY dread shampoo to remove the wax build up. I did a second wash with a tee tree shampoo to take care of any scalp build up. I did NOT condition his hair.

I put the top of his hair into a poytail and sectioned out my first row using a rat tail comb and used little clips to section off one SMALL box at a time.

The Brick layer pattern looks like this:

I then used this method to to lock his hair.

If you click on her video you can see her moms hair that she did with this method. Yes, it looked a little rough at first but soon her mom had lovely locs!!!

I used a latchhook when my fingers could no longer pull the hair through...

This cost $2.00 at my local hair store

YAY! we're done for about 5-6 weeks when I will use the latchhook to re-tighten the roots!!

Antonio's LOCS

My husband has finally decided to loc his hair with a more permanent method of locking. Though he wanted brother locs there is really no one I know of in my area and honestly we don't have the $100-$350 it can cost to start brother locks. I have been watching BigandlittleM on YOUTUBE for awhile and decided to try her method.

We decide on this method because the two strand twists and braids came out of Antonio's hair before they had time to lock. I can't imagine this method coming out....even if we wanted it to so please don't try it at home unless you are 100% sure you want to loc your hair.

Of course I will posting pics ASAP and giving your monthly updates on his progress!
