Skin Care Routine May 2014

I test and review a lot more skin care products and makeup these days. I love trying lots of products and new makeup looks but from time to time it gets overwhelming for my skin. A few weeks back I started breaking out. I thought it would just go away as usual but it got worse and my face (especially my left cheek) was pretty badly broken out.

Whenever my skin starts getting stressed and breaking out, I immediately start stripping away products and go back to basics. The first thing I did to get my skin clear is give myself a break from makeup. If I went out I would put on the least makeup I could stand, which for me is Mascara and lip gloss.

I looked at a bunch of youtube videos and reviews about skin care and decided to try a couple of products from The Body Shop. Please note, I am not working with The Body Shop, this is not a sponsored review and I did purchase these products on my own.

Here's what I have been using:

Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash

Product description:
This daily-use facial wash for blemished skin gives clearer-looking skin when used as part of a regular regime.
  • Removes excess oil without over-drying skin
  • Helps remove impurities
  • Gentle enough for daily use
My Experience:

I love the clean tingly feeling of this face wash. I really makes my skin feel clean and does not dry out my skin at all! My skin has almost completely cleared up in the couple of weeks I have been using this face was in combination with the toner! Love it!

Tea Tree Skin Clearing Toner

Product description:
This refreshing toner freshens and removes the last traces of make-up, dirt and oil, leaving skin feeling soft, fresh and ready for moisturizing. The shake to activate formula allows skin to benefit from mattifying powders, while ingredients including Community Trade organic tea tree oil, tamanu oil and white willow bark extracts ensure skin looks matte, without drying.
  • Removes traces of make-up, cleanser and impurities
  • Mattifying powders leave skin shine-free
  • Clinically proven to give clearer-looking skin

My Experience:

I love this toner! I use each time I wash my face and sometimes I just use it as a quick refresh. It is a bit tingly but it makes my skin feel so clean and yet, it has not felt dry at all since I have been using these products. I just shake really well and squeeze a little onto a cotton ball and swipe all over my face. I am surprised at how fast it has cleared up my face without making it feel dry!! I have had a lot of products that clear my skin really well dry my skin out so badly that I have had to stop using them, not the case with the Tea Tree line! LOVE IT!!

**As for Moisturizer, they were out of the lotion for this line when I ordered so I have been just using a bit of pure Argan Oil. I take a small drop in the palm of my hand, rub my hands together and pat the Argan Oil onto my face! It's a great basic moisturizer!*

I plan to purchase the other items in the Tea Tree line from The Body Shop. There is a body wash, blemish stick, face wipes, lotion and more. I want the whole line!!

Here's a little about uses for Tea Tree Oil:

Tea tree oil is derived from the leaves of the tea tree. The tea tree was named by eighteenth century sailors, who made tea that smelled like nutmeg from the leaves of the tree growing on the swampy southeast Australian coast.

Tea tree oil is applied to the skin (used topically) for infections such as acne, fungal infections of the nail (onychomycosis), lice, scabies, athlete’s foot (tinea pedis), and ringworm. It is also used topically as a local antiseptic for cuts and abrasions, for burns, insect bites and stings, boils, vaginal infections, , toothache, infections of the mouth and nose, sore throat, and for ear infections such as otitis media and otitis externa.

Some people add it to bath water to treat cough, bronchial congestion, and pulmonary inflammation.

Water in a can?!

I have been getting IPSY now for a few months and I LOVE it! This month I was not to thrilled to hear I was receiving a can of water...lol.... I was surely surprised when I ended up loving the product!

*This is not a sponsored review in any way. I paid for this product and am sharing my honest opinion*

What the website Says:

Known for its long history in treating atopic dermatitis, the Avène Thermal Spring Water is the only thermal spring water bottled directly from the source and packaged in a sterile environment to guarantee purity and maximum skin benefits. Its unique composition is proven to soothe inflammation, itching, redness, general sensitivity and post-medical and aesthetic procedure irritation as it softens, protects and purifies the skin. Avène Thermal Spring Water is recommended by dermatologists worldwide.

Spray onto the skin in a fine mist. May leave on for 2 to 3 minutes, and then gently pat dry. Ideal for use after cleansing, shaving, exercise, sun, to soothe diaper rash and set make-up to help keep it fresher looking longer.

My Experience:

When I sprayed this mist on my face, I loved the cooling refreshing feeling! It felt so great! It's already up to 90 in Florida, ugh! I hate feeling hot, especially my face. This mist just instantly cooled my face and made me feel refreshed!! I will definitely be purchasing another can for an up-coming road trip I'm taking.

By the way, if you are not subscribed to IPSY, where have you been? You can get a beauty bag full of 4-5 products every month for $10 no shipping or hidden costs, just $10 a month. I don't know how they do it but I am so happy they do!! I feel like I get at least $40+ worth of products a month and have tried products that I would not ordinarily have tried. It has expanded my beauty regime and introduced me to some awesome new products!

Clarity Vitamin C Serum for Face

  • Formulated to Smooth the Skin, Reduce Fine Lines and Wrinkles, and Treat Dark Spots.
  • Potent Antioxidant Blend Featuring Organic Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Hyaluronic Acid, and Herbal Extracts.
  • Stimulate Collagen Production for Radiant and Youthful Looking Skin.

  •          I have been using this product for about a month now. After washing my face, I pat it dry and apply a bit of the Vitamin C. It's very light feeling so it does not add any heaviness of greasiness to my face. A little goes a long way so this small bottle will last you quite awhile.

I have been noticing small lines up to the sides of my face near my eyes and I have a dark patch so I thought maybe this product would help. I have noticed a little improvement in the past month and will continue to use it!

There is a 100% money back Guarantee to there is nothing to lose!

    MKGlam VoxBox Review

EEEK! I was very excited to receive my most recent VOXBOX from Influenster.... The MKGLAM VoxBox from MaryKay!!

In the box were the following products (Pictured above)

    Mary Kay® Bronzing Powder
    Mary Kay® Translucent Loose Powder
    Mary Kay® Mineral Cheek Color
Mary Kay® Cream Eye Color in Apricot Twist
Mary Kay® Cream Eye Color/Concealer Brush
    Mary Kay® Lash Love® Mascara
Mary Kay® Gel Eyeliner with Expandable Brush Applicator in Jet Black
Mary Kay® NouriShine Plus® Lip Gloss in Mango Tango

I was so psyched to try these products as I haven't tried MaryKay products for years. Honestly I had not even thought about MaryKay products because I thought the company was kind of more traditional or old fashioned than I like. My opinion has definitely changed after using these products however!

My three favorite products from the Voxbox were the Gel Eyeliner, Mascara and Loose Powder! My #1 was definitely the Gel Eyeliner.

Look what I did!! lol Where has Gel Liner been all my life?! I love this stuff, it's sooo much easier for me to apply, it's goes on sooo smoothly over the tiny wrinkles in my eyelid and I can finally make that little wing thing! LOVE IT!!

I have tried MANY mascaras, this is my current favorite. I get jet black, long lashes without clumps. What else could you ask for?! It's also long lasting!

Love this translucent powder, I apply with the nice big fluffy brush supplied in my MKGLAM box! This powder just sets my makeup perfectly and feels so silky smooth on my skin! LOVE!

I like the cream eye color. It feels very silky and glides on easily. I would definitely recommend the product however, this color was a little on the bronze side for me so I believe I would purchase it in a different color.

I love bronzer. I don't know if other people do this but when I have a bit of a tan in the summer and use bronzer I like to use a little bronzer for eye shadow for a Natural Tan Goddess look.
I am loving MK's Bronzing powder!

    MaryKay Mineral Cheek Color.
Here is my fluffy brush and a little of the Mineral Blush.
I received the color "Shy Blush" which is a really pretty peachy pink... and perfect for spring!

Mary Kay® NouriShine Plus® Lip Gloss in Mango Tango. Very pretty Mango/Tangerine type color!

Good texture, not sticky. A little bright for my taste as I am normally a nude-lip person but this is very pretty for a pop of color!

    Studio Gear review #2

I am still using and LOVING the CC cream from Studio Gear! (I use is in the color natural)

What the company has to say:

Hydrating CC Cream transforms and enhances your complexion in an incredibly light, smooth formula. This foundation simultaneously fights aging, retains moisture, and covers and treats blemishes with a non-oily, perfectly radiant finish.
    Key Benefits:
    • Protects:  SPF 20 protects the skin, while Hydra-Extend technology provides moisture for up to 72 hours.
    • Perfects:  Enjoy natural looking coverage while micro-encapsulated pigments perfects and fade dark spots and acne scarring.
    • Corrects:  Anti-aging and collagen building ingredients help minimize fine lines and wrinkles.
    • Hydrates:  Hydra-Extend technology provides up to 72 hours of continuous hydration.
    • Conceals:  Micro encapsulated pigments deliver a fresh dose of color that adapts to your own skin tone, creating the most natural looking coverage.
    • Smoothes:  Skin nourishing ingredients help to correct and maintain youthful complexion

    My Experience:

I have not been using a separate moisturizer with this product. I normally wash my face and use any treatments I am using at the time then I go directly to the CC Cream because it is so moisturizing that if I use a separate moisturizer I feel like my skin is too greasy. This product alone however, does not make my skin feel greasy. It's easy to apply and has great coverage.

When I first put it I my hand to apply I was shocked that it came out a white/grey color. (I am new to CC Creams are they all like this?) When I began to apply it turned the perfect color for me. Turns out the color is in tiny drops in the cream and blends to perfection.

This leaves my skin feeling really great. It helps prevent fine lines and wrinkles with collagen-building ingredients, Restores skin elasticity by promoting moisture retention and Brightens and illuminates skin with a non-oily, complete coverage application. I have been using this for a few months now and it's my go-to foundation product! Love it!

    The Makeup Brush Break Down

When you turned 13, in addition to your training bra and soda flavored lip gloss, there’s a good chance that your birthday present, from a well-meaning aunt or grandmother, included a set of drugstore makeup brushes. Though the plastic container full of what looks like art supplies may have seemed like a puzzle you’d never solve back then, your grandma was absolutely right. makeup brush sets, like the great ones they offer over at The Salon Outlet, are absolutely the way to apply makeup. If you want to look like your skin has a natural glow and a flawless finish, you’ll just trust her on this one. So here’s a little breakdown of which brush to use for what. The most exotic looking brush in your set is probably the fan brush. With bristles that spread out like a paper fan, it can look a little intimidating. But this brush is one of the easiest to use. Swipe it across your face after applying foundation to brush away any loose powder.
A powder brush is possibly the most important one in your set. It’s going to be the shortest, fattest brush. Use it for applying powder foundation or setting your liquid foundation with a dry finish. An eye blending brush, which has a full set of bristles, not quite as round as the powder brush, with a tapered edge will be great for covering your entire eyelid with eye shadow. An eyebrow brush is usually also included in these sets. It’s got a very small set of bristles and is also tapered. Use this to fill in your eyebrows, as needed. A tiny lip brush has tapered edges on both sides and helps in applying glosses or lipsticks. With one of these, you won’t go outside the lines of your lips.
